1 John 3

Children of God Love One Another

1See
Lit what kind of love
,
bhow great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called cchildren of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because dit did not know Him.
2 eBeloved, now we are fchildren of God, and git has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He happears, we will be ilike Him, because we will jsee Him just as He is. 3And everyone who has this khope fixed on Him lpurifies himself, just as He is pure.

4Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and msin is lawlessness. 5You know that He nappeared in order to otake away sins; and pin Him there is no sin. 6No one who abides in Him qsins; no one who sins has seen Him or

sknows Him.
7 tLittle children, make sure no one udeceives you; vthe one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; 8the one who practices sin is wof the devil; for the devil
Lit sins
has sinned from the beginning. yThe Son of God zappeared for this purpose, aato destroy the works of the devil.
9No one who is
Or begotten
,
acborn of God adpractices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is
Or begotten
born of God.
10By this the afchildren of God and the agchildren of the devil are obvious:
Lit everyone
anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who aidoes not love his ajbrother.

11 akFor this is the message alwhich you have heard from the beginning, amthat we should love one another; 12not as anCain, who was of aothe evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because aphis deeds were evil, and his brother’s were righteous.

13Do not be surprised, brethren, if aqthe world hates you. 14We know that we have arpassed out of death into life, asbecause we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. 15Everyone who athates his brother is a murderer; and you know that auno murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 16We know love by this, that avHe laid down His life for us; and awwe ought to lay down our lives for the axbrethren. 17But aywhoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and azcloses his

18 bdLittle children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and betruth. 19We will know by this that we are bfof the truth, and will

20
Or that if our heart condemns us, that God...
in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart and knows all things.
21 biBeloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have bjconfidence

before God;
22and blwhatever we ask we receive from Him, because we bmkeep His commandments and do bnthe things that are pleasing in His sight.

23This is His commandment, that we

24The one who btkeeps His commandments buabides in Him, and He in him. bvWe know by this that bwHe abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
